I couldn’t visit London without visiting the retail outlet of my favorite British designer, Nigel Cabourn. Cabourn makes clothes inspired by vintage military and adventure styles. They tend to be handsome, function, carefully-made and quite expensive. I love them.
I visited in late September, and most of the stock played to Cabourn’s greatest strengths – clothes ready for cold and rain. Of course, I live in Los Angeles, so after browsing some really beautiful tweedy field jackets, I headed over to the sale section and grabbed a couple of warmer-weather selections.
Also featured in the shop are Cabourn’s workwear line (a collaboration with the British legacy brand Lybro), and athletic clothes inspired by vintage military gear. Prices were typically pretty high, but quality was high as well, and while some on the web have complained the Lybro line isn’t universally made in the UK, I found the quality to be in line with the main line.
The two shop assistants were notably friendly and helpful, offering patient advice and warning a couple of guys who’d wandered in off of garments that didn’t suit their needs. The shop is in a strange no-man’s-land in London, populated mostly by tourists who can’t quite find the West End theaters, but it’s absolutely worth a visit.
