The Merkur HD
Since we published our episode on grooming earlier this week, a lot of folks have been emailing asking about equipment for the basic wet shave. I’m not a shaving nerd myself, but I did a lot of research at places like Badger & Blade when I started wet shaving and in preparation for the episode.
The one item that was almost universally recommended was the Merkur HD. There are many safety razors available, and even more available vintage. Some are more aggressive, some less aggressive, some adjustable, some cheap, some expensive. The one that was suitable for beginners but still recommended by the hardcore was and is the Merkur. It costs about $45, is built like a tank, and is a great first step on the road to a new shaving lifestyle.

Using Oxiclean for Stain Removal
In Episode 4 of Put This On, I address using Oxiclean to remove stains - particularly underarm stains.
You can find the exhaustive system we recommend for removing even bad stains here, but here are some basics.
To boost your laundry’s cleaning power, add two or three scoops of Oxiclean to the load.
To make an Oxiclean soak, mix four scoops of Oxiclean with each gallon of water. You can then soak garments for as long as 24 hours.
To make a super-concentrated pre-treatment, add one scoop of Oxiclean to about 12 ounces of water - that’s about a water glass full.
You should always test if you’re concerned about color fastness, but I’ve frankly never had Oxiclean take color out of my clothes.
