Every year, my pal Charlie Todd and his group Improv Everywhere cover a beach on Coney Island with beach-goers and swimmers in formal attire. This year was their biggest ever. FANTASTIC.
Almost certainly the best pants-related event of the year. EVERY YEAR.
On Sunday, January 13th, 2013 tens of thousands of people took off their pants on subways in 60 cities in 25 countries around the world. In New York, our 12th Annual No Pants Subway Ride had over 4,000 participants, spread out over six meeting points and ten subway lines.

A big thanks to Deverge for getting his out in less than 24 hours.
When our director Ben Harrison isn’t frantically editing our Milan episodes (coming soon!), he directs the Engadget Show. Considering the show is co-hosted by an old college pal of mine, the very funny Brian Heater, and features two other pals, John Hodgman and Charlie Todd (the founder of Improv Everywhere), it struck me as worth a post. It’s a fun show about the intersection between technology and our lives - sort of like Put This On, if you replace menswear with gadgets.
Hodgman even shows up in cartoon form!
Charlie Todd & Company invade beaches wearing black tie. Delight ensues.
My pal Charlie and his group Improv Everywhere just executed their annual No-Pants Subway Ride in 59 cities in 28 countries around the world. They took up 10 subway trains in New York City alone. Kudos to IE for bringing a little wonder into the world.
For those of you who are disappointed you don’t get enough chances to wear evening clothes, I’ve got great news. My friend Charlie Todd runs a wonderful organization called Improv Everywhere - they endeavor to create amazing scenes in public that give people a story to share forever.
Last year, they ran “mission” called Black Tie Beach, where they dressed in evening garb and relaxed at the beach in New York City. This year, they’ll be repeating the event, and they want to do it around the globe. It goes down August 20th - if you want to help organize a local mission, further information can be found right here.
Congratulations are due to my friend Charlie Todd and his amazing organization Improv Everywhere for their 11th No Pants Subway Ride. I’m proud to have done a couple of Missions with Charlie, and it’s never been anything less than a blast. Hip-hip-huzzah to those trying to make the world a funnier place.
Our friends at Improv Everywhere dressed for a formal ball, then headed to the beach. Delightful, as always.
Of note: each of the hundreds of people who participated thrifted their black tie and gowns.
