For $50 You Can Buy …
LL Bean Signature discounted their suede Eastport moc toe shoes. The Ranger moc can be had for $40 and blucher moc for $35. Personally, I like the regular leather versions of each a bit more, but $35-40 is a great price for a casual pair of shoes. I think they would work particularly well with a pair of dark jeans in the fall.
It’s On Sale: John Smedley
John Smedley is having their end-of-the-season sale. Sweaters are 50% off and begin at $90. They’re a bit expensive, to be sure, but the company makes really wonderful knits. The raw wool is all sourced in New Zealand and then dyed by Zegna. The rest of the work is done in-house by John Smedley in Derbyshire, England. This includes spinning out the yarn, creating the panels, and knitting the final product. The wool is said to be processed through their local spring water, which supposedly gives the fabrics a superior handle. I’m not sure I completely buy that theory, but their garments do feel very nice and last a long time. I bought my first John Smedley sweater over ten years ago and it still looks great today.
It’s On Sale: Berg & Berg
Berg & Berg is having a 40% off sale. Great place to consider ties, scarves, and socks. You can check Jesse’s review of the company’s ties here.
Drake’s is having a sale on January 17th. 30% off selected ties, bow ties, scarves, and handkerchiefs.
Might be good to figure out what you want now, so that you’re not wasting time when the sale actually begins. Things are sure to sell out quickly.
Three Post-Christmas Sales
Brooks Brothers’ after-Christmas sale has started, and if you shop today, you get an additional 20% off. That puts the jacket you see above at $191. I bought it last year for about the same price and it’s a great piece. It fits slim and the corduroy mockneck collar is a nice, unique detail (the first reviewer’s post says everything well). The product shot isn’t that compelling, but if you can find it at your local Brooks Brothers store, I encourage you to try it on.
Additionally, CLAD Men has discounted some items by 60%. Most of the brands are a bit iffy, but they carry Incotex, DS Dundee, Bill’s Khakis, and a few other worthwhile companies. These Incotex flannel trousers, for example, are about $110 right now. Incotex has a really wide range of fits, and I don’t have any personal experience with these, but shipping is free and returns seem easy.
Finally, the Dandy Store has a 30% off storewide sale. I don’t know where they source their ties, but their socks are from Bresciani, one of the best men’s hosiery companies in the world. That gives me a bit more confidence in their other products.
It’s On Sale: Lands’ End Down Vests $18 Shipped
As we already mentioned, everything at Lands’ End is 40% off at the moment. That includes their down vests, which had already been marked down to $33 (for the patterned version) and $28 (for the solid). That makes their final price, with the additional 40% markdown, just about $18, with free shipping. Use the code DONNER and the PIN 1585. I’d generally recommend sizing down one size on these - I’m a 42 and can can comfortably layer a medium over a sweater or sweatshirt.
