It’s on Sale: Filson at the Clymb

Speaking of Americana, Seattle’s best outerwear and soft luggage maker Filson is significantly discounted at flash sale outdoor gear the Clymb. A few slimmer “Seattle fit” jackets and shirts and a bunch of relatively simple and pleasantly utilitarian tote bags are included. Might as well buy on sale.

It’s On Sale: Herring Shoes

If you’re located in the US and interested in (relatively) affordable footwear, rejoice. Herring’s shoes are now available through a US store. Traditionally, most guys have had to purchase their Herrings through the company’s UK site, but that comes with customs and duties, and possibly a bit of hassle if you have to make a return or an exchange.

Now, however, they’re available at Gentlemen’s Footwear, which is an online shop located in San Diego. They offer free shipping, and while returns come with a 10% restocking fee, exchanging for size is easy. This takes some of the stress out if you just want to try out the brand to see if it’s right for you.

At the moment, Gentlemen’s Footwear is running a promotion on their entire Herring stock. Take 10% off with the checkout code herring10. That puts these suede oxfords at $175 and these black cap toes at $265. Sale items can be returned as well (just not Last Pair Clearance items).

It’s On Sale: Select Items at Independence Chicago

Independence in Chicago is offering an extra 20% off all sale items with the checkout code EXTRA20.

Included are a bunch of casual shirts, such as these two plaids from Engineered Garments. There are also some t-shirts and a yellow sweatshirt from Levis Vintage Clothing, as well as a yellow anorak from Battenwear. Lastly, I really like these short sleeved Kapital shirts, but admit it might be because I’ve been a little obsessed with Japanese fabrics lately.

Note, all sales are final, so pay attention to measurements.

It’s On Sale: Stuff at LL Bean

LL Bean is having a 10% off sale that ends today. The discount doesn’t sound big, but this is as big as LL Bean’s sales get. Couple it with free shipping and a lifetime guarantee on all their products (i.e. you can return anything at any time if you’re dissatisfied), and I think you have some pretty good deals. Some notable items:

  • Obviously, LL Bean’s duck boots. They admittedly feel a bit like yesterday’s news now that menswear has moved on from prep, but I still think they look great. I wear mine with Barbour coats and jeans whenever it rains. Just be sure to search around for sizing advice. I have the non-Thinsulate ones and had to go a full size down.
  • Among LL Bean’s slimmer fitting Signature line, I also like this barn coat. I wish it were lined in the sleeves, so I could slip in and out of mine easily, but for $134 with the discount, this is an amazing value. Unfortunately, sizes are limited, so if you need a different size, you could also check the company’s mainline. Just consider sizing down, as some of the mainline stuff fits full.
  • There’s this yellow trail jacket, which I talked about in an old post. $71 after the discount, which isn’t too shabby. Again, just be sure to size down. For something already slim fitting, check this Signature line alternative. The olive color is arguably more wearable, and it’s even cheaper at $45.
  • Lots and lots of chamois shirts in both mainline and Signature. Wear one open and layered over a t-shirt, and channel some of that 1970s mountain biker look that Pete talked about
  • Kind of random, but I really like LL Bean’s bedding. Like much of the company’s stuff, I think it’s a solid value, especially on sale.

To get the discount, use the code FALL10 at checkout. Also note that the code expires today.

It’s On Sale: Shoes, Ties, and Socks

Sad to hear this weekend that Elm & Khan in Edmonton, Canada is closing up shop. They are having a sale on their remaining inventory, however. The discounts are modest, but the brands they carry don’t often go on sale. Shoes from Carmina, knit ties from Sorley, and socks from Sozzi. All very nice, high-end stuff, made a little more affordable with the sale.

If you spend over $500, you can also knock another $150 off with the checkout code THANKU&CHEERIO. That could put each pair of Carmina shoes at a handsome $350 if you buy two pairs.

It’s On Sale: Barney’s Warehouse Stock

Barney’s Warehouse is having a big clearance sale today, with an additional 30-40% taken off already marked down items. Some notables I found:

It’s worth going through their brand list to see if there’s anything you like. You can also just browse their men’s clearance section

It’s On Sale: Shoes

Speaking of shoes, a few stores today have shoe sales going on:

It’s On Sale: Chapal Leather Jackets
They’re hardly cheap, but Bench & Loom just put up a 15% discount code on all their Chapal leather jackets. Chapal is an old French company that got their start by making flight and racing jackets for guys who needed them (i.e. guys who actually fought in world wars and raced cars). Sometime in the late-20th century, they switched gears and went into the luxury goods market. Nowadays, they produce leather jackets for their own line, as well as companies such as Jaguar and Bugatti.
The jackets are made on order, which means they don’t actually get produced until someone pays for one (kind of makes sense, given the price). However, so long as you buy one of the stock sizes, Bench & Loom will take returns. They also have a made-to-measure program for people who need something custom, but those are obviously not returnable.
Granted, even with the discount, these prices are very, very, very high (in the territory of stuff Pete complained about only a few weeks ago). They’re too expensive for me, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t admired these for a while. On the upside, they’re probably nicer than the big name luxury brands, where you’re sometimes paying more for the brand’s name than the garment’s quality.
If you’re interested in them, the discount code is CHAP15, and orders must be placed by October 12th. You can get a sense of how the A-1 fits through this photo of Voxsartoria.
