“White bucks and saddle shoes— Lyrics to Bobby Pedrick Junior’s “White Bucks and Saddle Shoes.” (via Ivy Style)
That’s what the kids all choose
Chinos and slacks of course
Oh, yes, they sure look boss
Getting ready to go steady are
White bucks and saddle shoes
Button-down shirt and a crewneck sweater
Lets all the kids look so much better”

“Where did you get that hat? Where did you get that tile?
Isn’t it a nobby one, and just the proper style?
I should like to have one; Just the same as that!
Where’er I go, they shout ‘Hello! Where did you get that hat?’”
- Lyrics to “Where Did You Get That Hat?”

“Shoppin’ for Clothes” by The Coasters
This Leiber & Stoller tune was written in the mid-1950s after Billy Guy from The Coasters heard “Clothes Line” by Boogaloo and His Gallent Crew on the radio, but couldn’t find it in the stores. I actually like the original version better, but The Coasters version is more popular. The BBC also had a short little skit with the song, which you can see here.
The day you wake up with 10% of Sam Cooke’s class, elegance and soul is the day you’re a better man.
If you look and sound as fantastic as Janelle Monae, then feel free to wear spectators with your black tie ensemble.
So I checked the world famous contact@putthison.com mailbox, and what did I see? An email from an old acquaintance, Wale Oyejide. Wale was a guest on my old music radio show, The New Sound of Soul, six or seven years ago when he was recording instrumental hip-hop as “Science Fiction.” He also cut an excellent Afrobeat-influenced album under his birth name (he’s Nigerian-American, if I recall correctly).
Turns out one thing he’s up to these days is style blogging, and I really enjoyed checking out his blog Less.Gentle.Men.of.Meager.Means, aka LessGentleMen. Recommended!

Valley Lodge - “All Of My Loving”
Junk Culture “West Coast” as featured in Put This On, Episode 1
Just a simple note of gratitude for friend of the show Deepak Mantena and his solo venture Junk Culture, whose title track “West Coast” we made liberal use of in our Q & Answer segment.
The record just came out on Illegal Art, available here for pay-as-you-wish. It’s a great great track from an extremely great record. Read a great review and take a great listen here on allmusic.

It doesn’t take much to get me excited about a Cowichan sweater. Brian Eno and his kitty just did it.
