Brooks Brothers Friends and Family Sale
Brooks Brothers’ Friends and Family Sale begins this Thursday. Nearly everything in their stores will be discounted by 25%. It’s not the deepest discount of the year, but it is a chance to get basic items - Brooks Brothers’ forte - that otherwise don’t go on sale.
There are a lot of great choices. I like their lambswool Fair Isle sweater, array of scarves, and waxed driving jacket. Of course, you can get very similar jackets through Barbour, but I like the corduroy mock neck collar on Brooks’ design. If you’re on the market for sport jackets or trousers, check out Brooks’ slimmer lines in the Fitzgerald and Milano cuts (eg. this Fitzgerald corduroy jacket and Milano fit flannel trousers look excellent). Lastly, these chukka boots could work quite well for much of the year, and these dot repp ties are very versatile. Of all the ties on the market, I actually think Brooks’ ties, at least when they’re on sale, offer one of the best price/ quality ratios on the market.
If you’re thinking about getting something, I recommend going in now and having a sales associate put something on hold for you until the day of the sale. If you can’t make it into a store, check their online store between 12am and 3am EST on Thursday. It usually goes live online then. Both of these tactics are great ways to make sure you get the size that you need.
Lastly, be aware that you can get an extra 15% discount if you open up a Corporate Card and make your purchase on the card. Not all sales associates will stack these two discounts for you, but I’ve found that most do.

Gant is having a 30% off sale and it includes both the Rugger and Bastian lines. If you don’t see something in your size, try calling one of their stores in New York City and they may have something they can ship out to you. Note, however, that sale items can only be exchanged, not fully returned.
Use the code NYLONSUMMER at checkout.
Update: Actually, I think the checkout code gives you another 30% off? I bought the pullover above for $50 and it retails for $115. Some seriously big discounts here.
Update to my update: Looks like the NYLONSUMMER summer code doesn’t work anymore. Gant may have forgotten to turn off the code before they threw everything on sale, which meant customers could get a double discount. There are still some good deals in there though.
Here’s to praying that I’ll still get my pullover for $50!
(hat tip to Mister Crew for all the updates on this sale)
Brooks Brothers Sale
Brooks is having a one day sale today on all men’s tailored clothing. 30% off suits, sport coats, blazers, dress trousers, and dress outerwear. Check it out.
Bloomingdale’s is having a big sale starting tomorrow, May 11th, and it will go until Sunday, May 15th. Discounts will be between 25% and 40%. I don’t know what the designer menswear scene is like in your town, but in San Francisco, it’s surprisingly one of the better stores. The SF location carries labels such as APC, Gant Rugger, Michael Bastian, Engineered Garments, Woolrich, Moncler, Billy Reid, and Tom Ford.
Lastly, note that Polo Ralph Lauren stores can often be found within Bloomingdale’s. Thus, if you missed the recent sale at Ralph Lauren, here’s another chance to get some cheap Polo.
