A Big Welcome to Kiyoshi
We have a new guest writer here at Put This On. Kiyoshi, the man behind The Silentist, will be doing a special series for us titled “The Ramen Noodle Budget.” It will cover how you can put together a sharp wardrobe on a minimal budget.
I couldn’t be happier to have Kiyoshi on board. He’s a sharp guy who knows his stuff, and on more than a few occasions, led me to some great deals through our frequent email exchanges.
The first installment will be posted later today and the series will run through till the end of next week.

The Silentist just did a round up of nearly every slim card-holder on the market, and it reminded me of the Seinfeld clip above. Most men I see carry way too much around in their wallets; it’s almost like they’re lugging around mini-briefcases in their back pockets. All you really need are a few cards, which you can put in a slim card holder, and some cash, which can held with a money clip. By carrying less, you’ll be able to keep a nicer silhouette throughout the day.

I personally keep my cards in a Chester Mox card-holder, and I absolutely love it. The company uses Horween leathers and will personalize your wallet for $10 (I got my name engraved in the same font that Chester Mox used for their logo). Of the ones The Silentist blogged about, I think they offer the best quality-to-price ratio.

The Silentist found that these Charles Tyrwhitt boots are on sale for $160, shipped. I have these boots and definitely recommend them. They’re not so great for the summer, but come fall, they go very nicely with dark brown corduroys, moleskins, or any heavy wool trousers.
Use the code DELIVERY at check out to get free shipping.
Also, happy 4th of July to everyone! I’m about to prepare some mean snacks and chill some white wine for tonight.
Addendum: Please note these are UK sizes, so act accordingly. I’m a 9D in the US, but 8F in these boots.

I just purchased this midnight blue dinner suit on eBay. Including shipping, the total cost to me will be under $100.
Once it arrives, I’ll have a full write up on the whole “buying a tuxedo” experience, but if you want a tip, then I suggest going to the eBay UK site and searching for “dinner suit” rather than “tuxedo.” You tend to find better results, imho.

If you don’t want to have to rent a tuxedo the next time you need one, then buy one now. Not when you hear you need one. That should give you plenty of time to put together the pieces for a very, very reasonable price through eBay, thrifting, outlets or sales. If you go shopping for something you need now, you’re ceding 80% of your shopping power to the store.
