Naval wear has always been a menswear favorite. Besides needing protection from the the tempestuous elements, for which we can attribute the pea coat and other fancy rain gear, there is something undeniably romantic about the wide open sea and setting sail into it. Having something to evoke some nautical traditions makes you feel a little closer to nature and to a time when sea travel was beautiful as opposed to the poop barges of today.
