Two weeks ago, Pete linked to Joshua Rothman’s New Yorker article about the decline of J. Crew. This morning, Rothman joins WNYC’s Money Talking to chat more about how retailers are struggling in general. As he puts it, internet shopping is just a richer shopping experience nowadays. You can turn every purchase into a research project, read about the production process, and compare items across the board. “I always figured for clothes, buying them in person has got to be better,” he says. “But as online retailing has gotten more sophisticated, that’s not true anymore. Actually, the store is a kind of lame way to shop for clothes.”
