Style & Fashion Drawings: Lots Of Tapered Pants!

March 3, 2016

Okay
I know I am late to the game, but I’ve been seeing pants everywhere that are big at the thighs and cinched at the ankles. I’m told they’re called “joggers” and were big in NYC about three years ago. Well, they’re all over Los Angeles at the moment and they run the gamut – from “aggressively tapered sweatpants” to “boring chinos that happen to grip your ankles” to “basically nice pants for jogging.”

Here are two examples: a couple of guys I often see at the same Hollywood cafe. The first is an aspiring creative who tends to wear the same thing all the time (much like myself). White sneakers combined with nice pants, although he also wears his sweater backwards? A bit strange, but looks intentional to me! (Yes he’s wearing warm clothes, so it must have been back in December when I drew him). The second was wearing a bunch of cool brands, but the plain sweatpants and t-shirt (which was from Target) made him look approachable.

The heavily tapered look is everywhere – on sweatpants, running pants, casual chinos, etc. The cut can be nice if you want a “skinny jeans look,” even if you don’t have … the waistline for it? But enough about my problem already!

Finally, a few sketches I made this weekend while the Oscars were happening in my neighborhood. Stylish tourists, dressed-up locals, and a few okay Stan Smith alternatives were spotted.
