Our Beloved Sponsors

August 17, 2018

We’re only able to do Put This On thanks to our sponsors. So, twice a month, we like to give them a special shoutout. It allows us to show our appreciation, as well as say something about what’s going on with them.

The Hanger Project has a special made-to-order program with Lavabre Cadet, a small Parisian firm that’s famous for their handsewn gloves. Each commission will be handmade from an individualized pattern based on hand tracings provided by the client. The gloves will also be made with full quirks, which are small gussets in between each finger, allowing for better movement (a rare detail as it requires the gloves to be handsewn). Clients can also request various customization options – monograms, one-piece peccary construction, rare leathers, etc. You can read more about the program at The Hanger Project.

Along with custom-made shirts, Proper Cloth has a huge range of made-to-order suits and sport coats available in sizes ranging from 34S to 64L. These are softly tailored, half canvassed, and made from Italian wools. The gray suit you see above, for example, is made from a high-twist, open weave tropical wool from Vitale Barberis Canonico. High-twist means the fibers have been twisted onto the yarns one or two more turns, making the yarns more resilient. This allows the mill to make the fabric in a more porous weave, which will keep you feeling comfortable on those hot, sweltering days. High-twist wools are also wrinkle resistant since they have a natural springback quality. Tailors often recommend these sorts of fabric for travel suits for exactly this reason.

Paul over at Chipp Neckwear tells us that Harrison’s recently sold him some lengths of their “Millionaire’s Cashmere” collection. Each of the five patterns yielded four or five ties, and he’s offering them to our readers first. If another maker purchased this quality of cashmere (Mongolian cashmere spun and woven in Scotland), Paul estimates they would cost two of three times his $75 price. Readers can order by calling Paul at (212) 687-0850. Or by going onto this site and ordering an Ancient Madder tie, but then noting which cashmere tie you’d like instead. Pictured above, in order, is the brown plaid, brown houndstooth, grey windowpane, brown herringbone with an overcheck, and textured blue.

Looking for new socks? Dapper Classics just put up some new designs for this coming fall season. Included are some fresh merino and cashmere varieties, both solid-colored and patterned, which you can pair with your flannel trousers and double-leather-soled brogues. These are made in the USA and have hand-linked toes, which eliminates the bumpy seam at the front. Dapper Classics also has a new color in their summer-ready cotton socks — a slightly-lighter-than-midnight shade of navy they call Classic Navy.

Luxire has gotten a lot of attention with online style enthusiasts over the years. Being based in Bangalore and having a team of tailors means they can make (and replicate) almost anything. People often send in photos or sample garments, or choose from the dozens of styles offered on Luxire’s website, and have things produced to their measurements. See a pair of trousers with a unique closure on Instagram? Luxire can make it. Have a favorite shirt you want copied, but in a different material? Luxire can make it. Want a safari jacket? Luxire can make that too. You can read a recent review of the company at Permanent Style.

Finally, our thanks to Huckberry. They just picked up some new brands this week, including The James Brand, Timex, Bellroy, and Appointed Notebooks. Among the Timex watches are some of the new designs the company did with Todd Snyder.
