Should we make this a tradition? Last year we rounded up ten great sneakers for spring, as warm weather calls for more casual and comfortable shoes. We still stand by those picks, but here are ten more if you’re looking for other options.
- Adidas Ultra Boosts: Admittedly a hyped sneaker, but they do look very cool. All-white versions are hard to come by, but there’s another release due this May.
- Vintage German Hi-Tops: Ethan Newton picked up some vintage German high-tops for his new store Bryceland’s in Japan. Limited sizes and quantities (just a few pairs left in 42 and 43), but interested parties can email info@brycelands.com for more info. (Price is about $90).
- Stan Smith Primeknits: Your classic Stan Smiths, but with a breathable knitted upper and sock-like feel. To be available next month at shops such as asphaltgold.
- Vans Slip-Ons: Yes, we’re all sick of the meme, but never the shoe. The classics come in white canvas and checkerboard, but I’ve been digging the ones made from tan wool, blue suede, and mismatched panels. The last model will be available starting tomorrow at Nepenthes.
- Nike Waffle Racer: Named so because the original prototype in 1974 was made by pouring rubber into a waffle iron. I like how Jake at The Armoury paired them with a topcoat. Available at J. Crew.
- Nike Mayfly Woven: Incredibly lightweight and cool looking, even if not terribly durable (they basically disintegrate after a hard season’s wear). To be available soon at stores such as size? in the UK.
- Superga 1705s: Sometimes you just want a simple, white canvas sneaker that goes with everything. My go-tos are Superga’s 1705s, which are a bit less ubiquitous than the company’s more popular 2750s (although, those are great too).
- North Sea Clothing: For guys in heritage workwear, NSC has sneakers that look like they came off an early-20th century battleship. The extended rubber overlap give these a unique look – as well as some water protection. Available at Superdenim and Frans Boone.
- No. 288: A relatively young NY label that specializes in minimalist-looking sneakers with subtle leather accents. A bit more interesting, I think, than the all-white designs you see everywhere else. You can find them at End, LN-CC, and Oki-Ni.
- Nike Archive 83.M: Slightly less retro looking than the Waffle Racer, but still has a nice early-80s feel. These should be easy to wear with almost anything in your closet. Find them at End, J. Crew, and Mr. Porter.
