Two Great Sales at Drake's and Nigel Cabourn

Drake’s launched a pretty deep sale today, where you can find select items from previous seasons marked down as much as 80%. The international shipping fee is high ($25), but they make up for it with deeply discounted goods.

I particularly like the regimental striped schoolboy scarves, which are made in Scotland from pure wool. At Drake’s site, they’ve been discounted to $115, although with the shipping, you may be able to get a better deal by checking out Todd Snyder (where there are other discounted Drake’s goods). Drake’s also has some soft-shouldered tailoring, including a navy raw silk sport coat ($595), dark brown corduroy suit ($795), and at least two Abraham Moon tweeds (both $925). I find that Drake’s tailoring runs on the youthful side of classic — slimmish, but not skinny, slightly short without being a bumfreezer. You can get a sense of how their tailoring looks by checking out the “tagged” section of their Instagram page.

There are some other notables: striped oxford cloth button-downs ($115), raw denim jeans ($195), and archival print pocket squares ($50). If you have a tuxedo sitting in your closet, there are some black and midnight navy bow ties kicking around in there for just $25 (get one that mirrors the material on your coat’s facings).

British workwear label Nigel Cabourn also just put up their end-of-season sale, where you can find select items discounted by as much as 50%. The company is most known for their tweaks on expedition gear — specifically the clothes that Edmund Hillary and his team wore while ascending Mount Everest. But in the last few seasons, they’ve also been doing more military-inspired gear.

In their sale section, you can find thick ribbed gloves, cold weather parkas, deck smocks, and drawstring cargo pants that were recently made in collaboration with Closed (there’s also a women’s version, although I don’t know if the two cuts differ. Those with small enough waists may be able to get the women’s version if their size is sold out in the menswear one). I don’t have experience with these specific items, but generally find that Nigel Cabourn’s clothes consistently run true to size. Note that, if you’re outside the European Union, you can deduct an additional 17% off the listed price by using the checkout code NON-EU-BA53D.
